So, the fact of the matter is that as much as I love independent film and celebrate it and would almost always choose it over studio fare, I still have a routine “violent reaction” to having overloaded on the Sundance/Slamdance stuff by going directly to movie comfort food. That means a by the numbers zombie movie, a doc of the National Lampoon, Tom Cruise and Matt Damon action fare, and an Academy screener for THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN which I got Festworks Editor-in-Chief Rose Kuo to watch (while I was staying with her family in NYC this past weekend) by leading her to believe it was up for a writing award at the Oscars.
Guilty pleasures all. Also, not listed is a binge watch of “The People vs O.J. Simpson” series since it arrived on Netflix, and half-way through the “Santa Clarita Diet” as well. And now we are heading into Dallas International Film Festival prep and next week’s Oxford Film Festival. Little wonder that I rarely see a theatrical release movie in an actual movie theater (unless it’s playing at a fest) any longer…
